So what's the catch? I don't know either. I've noticed that Super Junior fans or SM Entertainment fans in general, have also become EXO fans ever since they debuted. It's probably because they're in the same age group as SJ or because they look like lovechilds of their favorite pairings (?), I guess I'll never know. I just don't get it. And that's not saying that they're not talented or anything, I haven't really individually rated them yet because really have no interest in them, so I won't bash. But, I don't know. I'm usually not as picky, but EXO is not on my K-Pop listen list at all.
Let's talk about their debut single MAMA. To be perfectly honest, when I first heard the song my initial thought was: "This should have been DBSK's comeback song when they're together again." Yes, you read right. I think it's meant for DBSK. I can totally picture them singing it and dancing to it too. And dayum, they could have rocked it! With perfect choreography and Chang Min's high pitch, it would have been AMAZEBALLS. Even watching the music video reminded me of DBSK. All I saw was DBSK, sad to say it, but that's really what I think. It's not that I'm biased, but I guess that became a factor to my nonexistent interest for this group? The chances of them getting back together is like 0.1%. I don't expect much, heartbreaking, but life goes on. I'm a practical person, so I do listen to all the tracks of their mini album before judging them. Let's talk about Track No. 2 in their mini album MAMA. Although What is Love is a pretty good song, I feel as though it would've or should've been a song for SHINee. Just imagine Jong Hyun singing it, how perfect it would sound plus Onew's melodious voice. Same goes for Track No. 3, History. If it were SHINee's, I'll just forget Sherlock ever happened. Do I even have to include the rest of the tracks? While listening to the album all I can think about was: Ahhhhh, what is this? It's like they're singing songs meant to be for other SM artists. What did they do, pick out songs that's supposed to be another artist's song and gave it to EXO?! As of now I think they haven't exactly found their own thing parting them from their SM seniors in terms of musicality, but hopefully they would.
EXO-K VS. EXO-M. Two subgroups, two different feels. To be honest, it's pretty easy to compare them since they're singing and dancing to the same songs. In my opinion, EXO-M came out much stronger than EXO-K. Why? Watching their own versions of MAMA, EXO-M's dance had more fluid transitions and somewhat smoother moves. There was that pop, and there was that flow. Compared to EXO-K's version which I thought was very lacking. Although I'll give props to Kai (?), the only one I think had the pop and the flow
well he's a 2Minbebe so yeah go figure. It may be the fact that EXO-M's target market is in another country and they worked harder to beat the expectations of theirs or other reasons maybe.
I don't know, in the endless pool of K-Pop groups that have debuted, EXO didn't as much stick out to me. I might just actually blame the teasers they have put up. Again, I expected too much from it and got disappointed. Shame, shame, shame. I don't know, to me they're all just face. Enlighten me.
If you're an EXO fan, I deeply apologize.
Don't be hatin', I'm just sayin'.
